Origin Sports runs the following subsidised/not for profit sessions:
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes for children in association with Origin BJJ. In general, these classes are aimed at children aged 4 - 13, however, we appreciate that every child is different and that children develop at different rates. We recommend that parents wait until their children know left from right before they attend the classes. We have classes at Elswick Pool, Newcastle Upon Tyne and Gateshead International Stadium.
Teen/Adult BJJ, Wrestling, Judo and Submission Grappling
We offer a range of classes for adults and older children who are interested in martial arts for fun or for competition. Our no-gi (submission grappling) classes are held at the Gateshead Academy for Sport on Friday evenings at 6PM.
We are working towards British Weightlifting and English Powerlifting accreditation for our weightlifting programme. Olympic Weightlifting is a competitive sport which involves performing the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. Powerlifting is a sport which involves the 'compound lifts' - the Bench Press, Deadlift and Squat. These lifts are good for building core strength, and for preventing injury. We recommend that beginners learn the lifts under a trained coach before attempting them by themselves. If you are interested in competing in weightlifting, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
We offer Sports Leaders Level 1, 2 and 3 courses to teenagers and adults who are members of the Jiu Jitsu and Judo programmes. Enquire at the gym for more information.
Classes cost £4 each for Children. There are several membership options available for adults, with discounts for teenagers and young adults who are in full time education. All abilities are welcome. For more information email Ian Malone or call him on 0773 252 3420.
