Tag Archives: thank-you

Thanks Wickes! We recently moved in to the Play Barn section of Mill Lane Youth Centre. This building had been abandoned for a long time, and was in a serious state of disrepair. Our members clubbed together, along with the members of some other groups that were making use of the building, to help clean up and redecorate the venue.

One of our members, Vipin Chauhan, works for Wickes and was kind enough to put us in touch with their charity team. The local store generously provided us with discounted painting and decorating supplies which we used to redecorate the building, turning a run-down property into a more enticing and appealing place for our members to use.

Maintaining community buildings plays an important part in promoting neighbourhood morale and cohesion. According to a report published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, "the loss or deterioration of ‘landmark’ buildings had contributed to a loss of pride and confidence in the neighbourhood." The Play Barn has been an important community gathering point for residents of Elswick for several decades, and thanks to the support of Wickes, we are able to maintain and repair the building, so that it will continue to provide essential facilities for the community for many years to come.

The Origin Sports committee and all of our members would like to say thank you to Wickes for your generosity. Your donation is helping us to turn a run-down "Play Barn" into a thriving Centre for Urban Arts and Sports.
